The big question: What comes after orthodontic treatment?

The answer is simple: The retention phase, in which we must take care that the teeth do not return to their original position, thus reversing the treatment.
For this, retainers are used: Elements that help keep the teeth in their correct position after the active phase of orthodontics.
There are two types: The fixed ones that will be cemented to the inside of the tooth so that they are invisible, and the removable ones that consist of a transparent splint that can be removed and put on and that is usually used day and night.
The choice of each type will depend on the case and the orthodontist's criteria, being necessary to follow their instructions to the letter to ensure that the teeth maintain their position over time.
If they are not followed, the teeth could return to their original position, in which case the only course of action would be a new orthodontic treatment.
